Applying for a job can be a daunting task. You post/email hundreds of job applications, but either you don’t get a reply or you get an ‘unsuccessful’ reply. It is very disheartening and disappointing. Have no fear! Don’t lose hope! Do something positive every day.

I have looked at many resumes from job seekers I have met and have spotted a few errors, either in typing, spelling, sentence construction, or repetition of skills and experience, or too much information to read. Employers have a lot of applications to read and go through, so if your skills and experiences are highlighted and stand out, you will get their attention.
Some tips on what to do to add more weight to your resume:
- Think about any special skills or strengths you may have that are not mentioned. It can be in your personal life or professional career.
- Achievements
- Short courses
- Additional Languages spoken or written
- Have you done any volunteer work while waiting for a fulltime job? There are many charitable organisations looking for help, especially in hospitals, charities.
Have you thought about the time you have spent waiting for a job, can be spent fulfilling some other need? Like exercising, walking, getting fit, reading, helping someone, studying part-time or short course, learning something new.
This can also be a time of discernment, on reflecting on your career, your past and your hopes for the future and what you can do realistically.
These are all positive steps to take which will improve your health and help prepare you to look confident when you do get called for an interview.
